History of ICGC

Journey Through Four Decades of Faith, Growth, and Impact

Founding and Early Growth
  • The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) was founded by Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil on the 26th February, 1984 in Ghana, West Africa, as an evangelical charismatic church.
  • From February 1984 to April 1986, the membership grew to about one hundred and eighty (180) adults in regular attendance. The early meetings of the church were held in several facilities which included classrooms, a private residence, a public hall, a science laboratory, a mechanical workshop, and a cinema theatre.
Establishment and Expansion
  • In May 1986, the church settled in a rented Norge scout hall – the Baden Powell Memorial Hall – which became its home for the next ten years.
  • During this ten-year period, the membership rose to over 4,000. This period also saw aggressive missionary church planting activities with local assemblies established in almost all the major towns and cities of Ghana.
Global Reach and Impact
  • From a humble beginning with a handful of people in its maiden meeting, the church has now grown into multidimensional Christian ministries represented in various parts of the world and touching lives and nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Today about 1150 ICGC branches had been established in Africa, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
  • In 1988, the ICGC established a ministerial institute to train a new generation of leaders to carry out its vision. From the initial six-month certificate in ministry, the college has developed into the premier private-owned University in Ghana known as the Central University.
Holistic Development and Commitment
  • From its humble beginnings, ICGC has grown into a global ministry with about 1150 branches across Africa, Europe, Canada, and the United States. In 1988, the ICGC established a ministerial institute, which evolved into the premier private university in Ghana, Central University.
  • The church also launched the Central Aid educational scholarship scheme in 1988, which has become the largest non-governmental scholarship program for pre-tertiary education in Ghana. ICGC is committed to raising godly leaders in all spheres of life and upholding the sanctity of human life through spiritual and ethical behavior. The message of Rev. Dr. Otabil, broadcasted through the Living Word, continues to inspire hope and transformation globally.

International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) North America Region

The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) North America Region has a rich history that dates back to May 2021, when it was officially established under the leadership of Rev. Emmanuel Owusu Kyereko as the Regional Overseer.

Prior to its establishment, ICGC North America was under Europe under the leadership of Rev. Edwin Donkor.

However, the need for a unified structure and coordinated approach led to the formation of the North America Region as a standalone entity under the leadership of Rev. Emmanuel Owusu Kyereko.

Since its inception, the region has experienced rapid growth and expansion, with new branches and ministries springing up across the United States and Canada. Under Rev. Kyereko's visionary leadership, the region has implemented various initiatives aimed at spreading the Gospel, empowering members, and impacting communities.

Some notable milestones in the region's history include:

- The first regional Pastors and Leaders conference, held in 2023 which brought together Pastors and leaders

- from across North America

- The launch of various ministries, such as Omega Generation.

- The establishment of new Assemblies in key states and cities

Today, ICGC North America Region continues to thrive, with a strong focus on evangelism, discipleship, and community service. As the region looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of raising leaders, shaping vision, influencing society, spreading the Gospel and empowering members to become influential leaders in their communities.
